Yep, it's about time that child goes out and meets her Aunties for awhile. She's turning out with such lovely colours but her sitting on the mouse looks about as hard as Erik doing it. She is going to be one beautiful chicken.
Well I tried a trick I knew to see if there was even any point in letting her brood them. You see - rotten eggs will float in water. but so will fertile ones. Both of those eggs floated. And those are the two she's been fussing over.
If she's still fussing over them, how long has it been? It's around 21 days for a chick to hatch. If she's been sitting on live eggs, I think it's about time for them to hatch, poor Darling Poof! If she's sitting there worrying about them, they've either died or the chicks are starting to peep from inside the shell. The thought of her running from a rolling egg is hilarious but I think -- if!!-- she broods this year she'll be even better next year, never mind the eggs!
No it hasn't actually been that long - she had a few false starts but didn't really start sitting in earnest until about three days ago. Eggs can go a month before they need to be incubated. So there is indeed still a chance. Ming apparently did his bit - Molly seems to have finally figured out how to do her part. July 10th we should know if we have wee babies.
I suspect my household's cats would love the idea. In the "This one's breakfast, this one's lunch, the fat one's dinner and that bitty one is midnight snack." sense. Happy cats, sobbing children, and annoyed, regretful adults who have to clean up the aftermath.
